USDA grants to Oregon and Washington will be used to retrofit a truck in China to showcase Northwest pears.

For 19 years the Pear Bureau Northwest lobbied to export its farmers’ produce to China. In February, the Chinese government finally said yes.

The plans is to have a Chinese nutritionist, who would talk about the health benefits of pears and a chef, demonstrate ways to incorporate western pears into Chinese cooking, drive the truck to grocery stores and shopping malls around Beijing, Shanghai and possibly Guangzhou.
