The Senate approved a proposal to extend federal timber payments to Oregon counties.
Passed by a vote of 97 to 2, the legislation was described by [Sen. Ron Wyden] as nothing less than a lifeline for the counties.
Wyden included his legislation in a bill dealing with a federal helium reserve; that bill now goes to the U.S. House, which previously passed its own version.
