Portland support and social group Code Scouts helps women who want to break into computer programming.

Currently, only 18% of computer science degrees go to women.

Though attitudes have changed, many women have already missed the opportunity to join the tech workforce. They might have pursued a computer sciences degree a decade ago if the industry had been more welcoming, but now that times have changed, these women are long past the typical career entry points of college and internships.

While a huge push is being made to encourage young girls to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers, grown women have been left out.

Funded by an $18,000 grant from the Portland Incubator Experiment, Code Scouts provides a place for women to network and learn, without the intimidation of being the only girl in the room.
