Oregon’s governor and attorney general will appeal approved plans for an LNG project.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved plans for a natural gas terminal and pipeline to be built in Coos Bay.
But Gov. Ted Kulongoski and Attorney General John Kroger say the state will appeal the plans, which have been criticized for their environmental impact.
The commission’s approval is a big boost for the Jordan Cove Energy Project. And it means its manager, Bob Braddock, will have an easier time convincing LNG suppliers to give Coos Bay a hard look as they determine whom to sign contracts with in the coming years.
But the move drew instant criticism from the coalition of opposition groups that are working to dismantle the multibillion-dollar project, which still faces a number of regulatory hurdles. And Gov. Ted Kulongoski and Attorney General John Kroger announced that the state will request a rehearing of the decision.
