The Oregon House approved House Bill 3077 that would cast the states’s electoral votes for the winner of the national popular vote for president, regardless of state results.
The bill would add Oregon to an interstate compact that so far has enlisted support from nine states with about half the 270 electoral votes required to elect a president.
Under the U.S. Constitution, the president and vice president are not elected directly by voters, but by electors equal to a state’s representatives in the U.S. House and its two senators. Washington, D.C., is entitled to three electoral votes.
