Experts believe the cascading wave of retiring baby boomers — 10,000 a day are turning 65 — will find enormous economic opportunity. Many leave the workforce healthy, financially stable and finally with the time to do what they’ve always wanted. Others find retirement boring, or discover their pensions or investments don’t provide enough money to maintain the lifestyle they enjoyed while still earning a paycheck.
Increasingly, those people can “monetize your expertise” by going into business themselves, said Jackie Babicky Peterson, who teaches classes at Portland Community College’s Small Business Development Center.
