Nike unveiled a new design touted as the most environmentally friendly soccer shoe yet.

Nike used castor beans — the seeds used to make castor oil — to create a traction plate for the shoe and its sock liner. Shoe laces, lining and tongue have a minimum 70 percent recycled materials.

Nike’s introduction of greener products has picked up the pace in the last year, the most prominent being Nike Flyknit, the low-waste production shoe that stole the show at the Summer Olympics. The company is also testing a new waterless fabric dying process.
