Oregon’s unemployment has climbed since June, despite five months of job gains.

The contradiction stems from the way the numbers are collected, a difference that’s become increasingly apparent. Employers added a seasonally adjusted 2,600 jobs in the past two months, even as the unemployment rate increased from 8.4 percent to 8.7 percent.

The two economic indicators are the focus of a new Oregon Employment Department report, which says the measures aren’t always apples to apples.
