Portland’s urban tree canopy has grown by 2.6% over the last decade.

Trees now cover 30 percent of Portland. Compare that with Seattle’s estimated canopy cover of 23 percent. Los Angeles has trees covering 21 percent of the city. The national average is pegged somewhere between 22 percent and 30 percent, depending on the methodology of the measurement.

City of Portland officials set a goal to reach a 33 percent tree canopy by 2030.
