Multnomah County has cut down on emissions, but still won’t reach its 2010 reduction goal.
Greenhouse gas emissions in Multnomah County dropped 3% from the previous year; an improvement, but not enough to reach Portland’s goals of reducing emissions 10% from 1990 levels by next year.
The reduction largely appears traceable to reduced driving spurred by last year’s $4-a-gallon gas prices, says Michael Armstrong, deputy director of the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability.
On a per-capita basis, greenhouse gas emissions in the county dropped 4 percent last year, but the net reduction was smaller because of population growth.
