A Canby-area man filed an ethics complaint accusing Clackamas County Commissioner Jim Bernard of a conflict of interest on the Portland-Milwaukie light rail line.
The complaint by Mack Woods says Bernard stands to receive $20,000 because part of the Bernard’s Garage property he owns in downtown Milwaukie will be acquired by TriMet to make room for the line.
“TriMet has two of the properties he owns listed on the properties they’re going to be acquiring,” said Tyler Smith, Woods’ attorney who wrote the legal opinion included in the complaint. “Even if what he was arguing at all times before, that there was just a potential conflict of interest, when TriMet says they’re going to acquire it, it’s an actual conflict. Money’s going to change hands.”
