Local designers will share their creations when Portland Fashion Week kicks off tomorrow.
The Oregonian has profiled three local designers sharing their spring/summer 2010 collections at Portland Fashion Week.
Portland and fashion have a delightfully complicated relationship. On one hand, the metro area is internationally famous as a center for activewear brands such as Nike, Adidas and Columbia Sportswear. On the other, we have an ever-growing community of independent designers working to make Portland a high-fashion hub.
Both elements of the local design scene will be represented during Portland Fashion Week, which runs Wednesday through Sunday. The annual showcase – which bills itself as the first sustainable production of a fashion week in the world – is presenting work by designers from the Northwest, as well as more far-flung locations (Pakistan, Paris and Chicago, to name a few). Highlights include the Imperial Collection by Portland designer Anna Cohen; an emerging designer program; and “Ready to Roll,” featuring cyclist-friendly designs, benefiting Oregon Manifest.
