The Legislature’s budget committee says there isn’t enough oversight to make sure the $414 million statewide emergency radio network doesn’t go overboard.

In sharply worded findings, the report from the Legislature’s budget committee said the agency building the Oregon Wireless Interoperability Network doesn’t have the staff and controls in place to adequately manage such a large-scale construction and technology project.

State officials running the project, which is readying scores of sites for radio towers across Oregon, insist that everything is under control and on schedule.
