Walmart is proposing to build a small grocery store in Oregon City, after unsuccessfully trying to build a big box store a decade ago.

Walmart is proposing a 60,000-square-foot grocery store, less than half the size of the project envisioned 10 years ago. The company is opening several of the smaller stores in Portland’s suburbs and announced plans last month for a grocery in neighboring West Linn.

The retooled project should be acceptable to the city, which twice rejected Walmart’s efforts to develop the 13-acre site.

Oregon City’s planning commission will have to approve the project, which includes 453 parking spaces. The traffic impact will be one of the factors could affect the land-use request.
