Job losses jump back up


After a slight drop in July, Oregon’s unemployment rate rebounds up to 12.2% in August.

Oregon’s unemployment increased from 11.8% in July to 12.2% in August, but there are some signs of improvement from government stimulus programs.

During the past year, more than 109,000 Oregonians have become unemployed, pushing the total jobless number past 235,000. July’s gain was only a blip at 500 jobs.

Economists expect Oregon’s seasonally adjusted unemployment to rise further, even as what’s called the Great Recession winds down.
