SkyWest flies subsidy-free


SkyWest Airlines no longer needs public subsidies for its North Bend-Portland flights.

SkyWest Airlines announced that it no longer needs to rely on public subsidies to support its flights from North Bend to Portland. The airline was previously subsidized by the Coos County Airport District because of low passenger profits.

Gary LeTellier, executive director of the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport, called the announcement “a big milestone.” In the news release, the airport district’s chairman praised SkyWest for the step.

“By no longer requiring subsidy payments, SkyWest has shown its commitment to this community and has invested in the future of travel to Oregon’s beautiful southern coast,” Chairman Mike Lehman said.
