A three-week course being launched this month by Umpqua Community College is designed to prepare students for a professional career in the logging industry. The curriculum was developed in partnership with Associated Oregon Loggers and forestry industry employers from the region. “There’s a huge demand for these skills,” says Terry Peek, vice president of instruction for UCC. Peek says the logging program is just one of several at the college developed with local employers in mind. In addition, the college offers training in construction technology, culinary arts and truck driving.
