Mt. Hood Community College plans to use a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to start a practical nursing program, pending approval in April. The $350,000 grant would be used to cover planning and development and the first year of operational costs for the new program. Administrators forecast that if the program were approved, it would host about 24 students during the first year. “We want to graduate licensed practical nurses so they stay in the long-term care field,” says Linda Fleshman, director and instructor of the practical nurse program.
