Oregon’s principal port enjoyed record volumes in 2007, besting 2006 by 21% in containers, 19% in grain, 25% in mineral bulk and 20% in total tonnage. Only auto units declined, just 3%. Imported containers jumped 24%, putting a dent in a long-standing gap with containers exported. January-February 2008 vessel calls and containers roughly equaled 2007. Among West Coast ports in 2006, Port of Portland ranked seventh for value and fifth for volume in foreign exports.
