Trucking levels out as fuel costs leap

Oregon tax receipts paid by truckers remained fairly level for the year ended May 2008, declining by just a tenth of a percent, the same as the prior 12 months, after double-digit growth in 2004 and 2005.

Oregon tax receipts paid by truckers remained fairly level for the year ended May 2008, declining by just a tenth of a percent, the same as the prior 12 months, after double-digit growth in 2004 and 2005. Similarly, the freight portion of the nationwide transportation services index hasn’t varied much during the last few years. But a steep decline may loom on the horizon with diesel prices reaching historic highs; they’ve risen more than 50% in the last 12 months alone.
