Lane County’s housing inventory is down. Is that a positive indicator?

In May, the housing inventory for Lane County decreased. Several experts say many things have caused the decline, some of which do not mean the housing market is improving.

For the first time since September 2005, the housing inventory in Lane County – as expressed in the number of months it would take to sell all the houses at the current rate of sales – is smaller than it was a year ago.

This May, it would take 8.1 months to clear the inventory at the current rate of sales. Last May, the number was 8.6 months, according to the monthly Regional Multiple Listing Service report.
