Two Tigard Main Street businesses closed down this week, bringing the vacancy rate to about 10%, roughly the same as downtown Portland.

The Tigard Sub Shop and A Taste of Heaven Bakery are the most recent closures.

“We are definitely concerned about the recent vacancies,” [Tigard’s redevelopment project manager Sean] Farrelly said. “If those stores are still vacant in six months we’ll be very concerned.”

This isn’t the first time that the sub shop has faced closure. The shop closed briefly in 2009 at the height of the recession, but this time, said Marie Marr, who has owned the Tigard Sub Shop with her husband since 2005, it’s permanent.

“We’re very disenchanted with Tigard,” she said. “We’re just wiping our hands and saying goodbye.”
