According to a Bureau of Economic Analysis report, per capita income dropped in each of Oregon’s metropolitan areas.

The largest drop came in the Bend area, where per capita income declined from $35,728 in 2008 to $34,688 in 2009.

“When an employer has 200 applicants for a job that used to pay $10.70 per hour, the job posting may come in at $10.25 per hour,” [State Employment Department regional economist Carol] Eagan said. “Due to the sheer number of applicants, the employer may feel like they don’t have to pay as much, or maybe with the uncertainty with the economy, they don’t feel like they can afford to pay as much.”
