Randolph Harry Segal, the father of the Doodle Bra inventor, got a tougher sentence than expected for misusing investment money.

Randolph Harry Segal, 47, of Medford, will serve 40 days in jail, pay restitution and be required to serve two years of probation. He began serving his jail time immediately after the sentencing Wednesday morning after pleading guilty to one count of first-degree felony aggravated theft and one count of selling unregistered securities.

After hearing victim statements by a defrauded investor and Segal’s 19-year-old daughter, Rachel Segal, who invented the Doodle Bra, Jackson County Circuit Judge Tim Barnack imposed a harsher sentence on Segal than recommended as a part of a plea agreement between Segal and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.

Rachel Segal, who while still in high school gained national acclaim for inventing the bra that buyers could self-decorate, said the tougher penalty was appropriate.
