Bankruptcy court approves Haggen’s settlement with Albertsons


The U.S. court approved Haggen’s $5.75 million lawsuit against Albertsons on Tuesday.

That’s considerably less than the amount Haggen had originally sought – over $1 billion – when it filed the suit in September. In the lawsuit, Haggen accused Albertsons of sabotage after Haggen acquired dozens of Albertsons stores as a result of an FTC-mandated sale.

Albertsons announced the settlement in late January, and said while it believes Haggen’s claims lack merit, the settlement enables it to avoid expensive litigation.

Haggen saw massive closures earlier last year, which it claims was due to misleading acquisiton.
