Beautifying closed storefronts


Closed storefronts are getting a refresher in Medford, where businesses surviving the recession are adopting and decorating shop windows.

Businesses are working to make downtown Medford not seem so empty, by filling empty storefronts with attractive window displays.

The Heart of Medford Association has spearheaded the project, which replaces “For Lease” signs in windows with essentially 3D billboards for other businesses.

Diana Perez, the owner of Fringe Hair Boutique, joined the cause recently, decorating the window display area below her second-story salon.

“I’m trying to find ways to make money in this economy with recycled clothing and furniture in addition to my hair business,” Perez said. “We all have these beautiful things sitting around.”
