Prineville-Crook County Airport hopes to expand operations with a new grant to lengthen its runway.
The Prineville-Crook County Airport is too small to accommodate some airplanes, but that will soon change with a runway expansion.
The airport recieved an FAA grant of $690,135, and local officials hope that the expansion will provide short- and long-term opportunities for the area.
In a short-term vision, the improvements to the runway would accommodate larger corporate jets, and they are going to be more comfortable landing on Runway 28.
In a long-term vision, continuing to develop the runway could be very beneficial to the airport from a business standpoint. Roberts Field in Redmond provides a passenger hub for air travel, whereas Prineville-Crook County Airport could have the potential to become more of a freight model. Forrester said this would open up more opportunities for Crook County, as the improvements accommodate businesses that could take advantage of such a model.
