Marine shipping is vital to the Oregon economy, but roads are the future. In our latest survey, a majority of readers rank marine shipping facilities as “very important” to the state economy; 87% believe shutting down container operations would have a detrimental impact on local business. But when it comes to future transportation investments, readers favor highways. Sixty-three percent of respondents would invest transport money in roads; only 19% would spend those dollars on marine shipping. Research partner CFM Strategic Communications conducted the survey of 413 readers in February.
