Visitors spent a record amount to get to and explore Oregon in 2014.

In an interview with the Portland Business Journal, the head of Travel Oregon credited its successful “7 Wonders of Oregon” campaign.

“We are truly a growth industry and one that’s helping drive the Oregon economy,” said Todd Davidson, chief executive officer for Travel Oregon. He noted that the increases show a growth of about 4 percent in spending between 2013 and 2014 and an increase of 11,000 jobs since 2010.

The rebounding economy has played a big role in the bounce-back. Davidson said national consumer confidence index scores, which measure how people feel about their current situation and their future, topped 90 last fall. On average, 90 or better indicates a healthy economy. During the downturn, the index fell to 25. Davidson said the March index broke 100 again.

The growth was a driving force behind Oregon topping 100,000 jobs in 2014, PBJ writes.
