The Portland-based online archiving company, Smarsh, bought Presensoft to bolster its instant messaging services.

OregonLive.com reported on the deal to bring Skype’s archivist on board:

Presensoft has a dozen employees in Houston that will remain there following the deal, according to Smarsh.

Smarsh, which employs 215, reported $32 million in revenue in 2013, up 17.5 percent from the prior year. The privately held company hasn’t reported 2014 sales numbers.

The Portland Business Journal expanded on the acquisition Wednesday:

“Presensoft is a long-time partner of ours that offers best-in-breed archiving solutions in a growing segment of our business,” said Smarsh CEO Stephen Marsh in a written statement. “This acquisition aligns with our strategic imperative to enhance the Archiving Platforms’ support for as many content types as possible, while capturing and storing the content in purpose-built ways for simplified and streamlined supervision and e-discovery.”

Smarsh’s archiving technology allows customers to capture and save all types of communication information for corporate compliance, supervision, and legal reasons.
