Move could yield “favorable business outcomes” as well as cut down on lead emissions.

“In order for the addition of mogas [unleaded fuel] sales at HIO [Hillsboro Airport] to be a modestly positive business proposition, a ‘new vendor’ would have to achieve mogas sales levels approaching 15 percent of all piston-engine fuel sales,” the study concluded. “If an existing [fuel retailer] were to add mogas sales in addition to ongoing 100LL sales, an ‘increment’ of new total fuel sales between 5 percent and 10 percent would be required to make the undertaking profitable.”

The study cautioned that mogas is still a “niche” fuel but identified “at least three wholesale distributors located proximal to HIO.”
