The Portland Democrat overcame troubles throughout the campaign from Cover Oregon’s botched roll out to the scandal that recently enveloped first lady Cylvia Hayes and her consulting firm 3E Strategies.
In his victory speech, Kitzhaber thanked supporters for sticking with him “under difficult circumstances.”
“I do not take that for granted, and I will not let you down,” Kitzhaber said. “During this campaign you have risen above the noise and distractions and chosen to focus on the real challenges facing Oregon.”
