The company was fined a total of $16,500 for violations at two of its Albany facilities.

During a December 2013 inspection, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality discovered that the company had failed to determine whether waste laboratory chemicals and residues generated at the research facility were hazardous.

At the production facility, where the company produces reactive and refractory metals, waste material generated from niobium processing was stored in a large, unmarked, open carboy in Building 84 of the facility.

TDY later determined that some of the material was waste containing barium at a concentration that exceeded the threshold for a toxic hazardous waste.
