The rules as proposed would cap the number of such rentals within a single building at 10 percent of the total units, or one unit for smaller buildings, said Jackie Dingfelder, a policy director for Mayor Charlie Hales’ office.
The cap is an effort to limit the impact of short-term renting on affordability for long-term renters, Dingfelder said. Housing advocates fear renters might opt to share their home with travelers rather than roommates, effectively reducing the housing supply.
