Wyatt Starnes died at the age of 59.

He co-founded the computer security company Tripwire in 1997 and served as CEO until he retired in 2004. He went on to found another security software provider SignaCert Inc., which was acquired in May 2010 by the global communications provider Harris Corp. Starnes stayed on as a vice president with Harris’ Advanced Concepts until he retired in June 2012.

Starnes was named in 2011 to the TechAmerica Foundation’s CLOUD2 Commission, which made recommendations to the Obama administration on cloud computing deployment and innovation.
