Business groups are keeping an eye on the outcome of the Legislature’s special session next month, which will make key decisions on the Business Energy Tax Credit and lien rights.
Changes made by the Legislature to traditional lien rights last year had a significant impact on the business, and industry groups are hoping the work they’ve done will be enough to fix the problem.
John Killin, president of the Associated Builders and Contractors Pacific Northwest chapter and executive director of the Independent Electrical Contractors of Oregon, said the Legislature last year virtually dismantled the traditional lien process for subcontractors and suppliers on many projects. Since then, industry and consumer groups have been crafting language that will satisfy both sides, and ABC is hopeful for a positive outcome that satisfies all parties involved.
“Any change to lien law is a significant one,” Killin said. “There are an awful lot of people involved in the conversation. You have bankers, credit unions and their customers involved as well as general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. That’s a lot of constituents who want to have their voices heard.”
