The ski and snowboard season is getting underway at Mount Bachelor and Mount Hood, but powder is still scarce.

The clear and cold weather over the weekend kept Timberline, Meadows and Bachelor stuck with about 19 to 21 inches of snow for a base — great for stump-dodge skiing but not for the general public.

Central Oregon’s Mount Bachelor, the largest ski area in the state, opened its terrain park Saturday and plans to keep it open until Wednesday before preparing for the official kick-off Friday (conditions permitting).
