AAA Oregon/Idaho says barring unforeseen events, the national average could fall to as low as $3.10 to $3.20 a gallon by late December which would be the lowest mark since February 2011 and the least expensive price for gas during the holiday season in three years. In Oregon, the average could dip as low as $3.20 to $3.30 a gallon which would be the lowest price since January 2011.
Sufficient supplies, flat demand and the shift to cheaper winter-blend gasoline are putting downward pressure on pump prices. Of course, a hurricane or other unexpected disruption to production and distribution could prevent prices from declining.
