Tax bills sent out to Multnomah County property owners this week will be bigger than usual, due to voter-approved tax hikes.
The county — which collects property taxes for 69 taxpayer-funded agencies in its jurisdiction — expects to bring in $1.37 billion for the fiscal year, an increase of 9.2 percent compared with last year.
The largest increase comes from a $482 million bond measure approved by 65 percent of voters. It means the county will collect $319 million for Portland Public Schools, up from $261 million last year. Property owners in the district will pay an additional $1.10 annually per $1,000 of assessed property value, or $165 a year for a house assessed at $150,000.
