Original plans to develop a 10-story corporate headquarters building for Lithia Motors in Medford are being scaled down due to the recession.

But while the plans now aim for a smaller building without the originally proposed parking structure, the $14 million cost to Medford will remain the same.

The original plan, unveiled in July 2005, called for a 10-story, 100,000-square-foot Lithia headquarters as the anchor for The Commons. At the time, Lithia had 650 employees working in the downtown area.

After Lithia reduced its work force to 330 during the economic downturn, the company decided a four-story, 40,000-square-foot building would meet its needs, according to Mark DeBoer, Lithia vice president of real estate.
