Daimler is one of nine firms selected to take part in a program and the only one outside the Midwest. Most of the funding comes from the $787 billion stimulus package approved last year while additional money will come from Energy Department accounts. Companies selected for the program will also be required to match the government’s contribution.“Improving the efficiency of our vehicles is critical to reducing America’s dependence on foreign oil and addressing climate change,” Energy Secretary Stephen Chu said.
