Geffen Mesher Participates In Thought Leader Forum

Raymond Cheung, an Audit Shareholder at Geffen Mesher and the leader of the firm’s M&A Transaction Advisory team, recently participated in a Thought Leader Forum hosted by the Portland Business Journal. The topic of discussion was the world of mergers and acquisitions and the challenges, best practices, and players associated it.

“I’ve participated in similar discussions before, but this forum was particularly successful,” noted Cheung, who also leads the firm’s Asia Pacific practice. “It was fascinating to hear about the other panelists’ perspectives and experiences.”

Joining Cheung in the discussion were Anubhav Bhatia, Principal at Point B Management Consulting, and David Forman, Partner at Tonkon Torp. The forum was moderated by Erica Heartquist.

“We had a lively group dynamic,” added Cheung. “When you have an accountant, a lawyer, and an investment banker in the same room, it’s bound to get interesting. We have vastly different roles and responsibilities within the M&A space, but we’re three points of the same triangle.”

After over an hour of thought-provoking conversation, the trio arrived at a clear consensus — one that transcends industry or role — about best practices for undergoing an M&A transaction: plan appropriately, build a strong team, and outline your capacity and capability to undergo perhaps the largest financial event of your business’s lifecycle.

This discussion was by no means the first time Geffen Mesher had participated in such an event; in fact, the Portland Business Journal is facilitating another Thought Leader Forum on Multi-Generational Business & Succession Planning in April 2019, for which the firm will be represented by Tax Department Chair Tania Gitch.
