Boise is shutting down its remaining paper machine at its St. Helens mill, eliminating 106 jobs.

“This is a difficult but necessary decision to focus our efforts and resources on the products and machines elsewhere in our system that drive the financial performance and cash flow of our paper operations,” said Boise chief executive Alexander Toeldte in a written statement.

Boise said it took $31 million in charges last quarter to cover the cost of shutting down the mill, including $7 million in employee related costs. The total also includes $10 million set aside for site remediation.
