California-based Near Space Corporation is building a $6.9 million high-altitude ballooning facility in Tillamook.
The Austrian daredevil who took a balloon ride 24 miles above the earth, and then jumped, has focused attention on the near-space industry.
The company helps scientists and others reach the space-like environment above 99 percent of the Earth's atmosphere, where they can conduct research, develop new technology or simply jump. The company's website says it has conducted over 160 stratospheric balloon flights.
