Acting in concert with protests up and down the West Coast, Occupy Portland protesters shut down two of the Port of Portland’s terminals this morning.

The demonstrations began about 6 a.m. and were largely peaceful. Demonstrators planned to break up about 10 a.m. and said they would return to rally at Kelly Point Park. They said they hoped to disrupt the second shift of workers at the port.

Protesters in Portland join groups of protesters in a “day of action” aiming to shut down ports along the West Coast, including Longview; Los Angeles; San Diego; Tacoma, Wash.; Seattle; Anchorage, Alaska; and Oakland, Calif. Organizers hope to delay truck traffic and cut into the profits of the corporations that run the docks.  Authorities said, however, there were limited disruptions and no major clashes with police so far.
