Oregon’s jobless rate remained at 9.5% in October, compared to 9.6% in September. This is still a half point above the national average of 9% in October.

Early estimates were that the state had lost jobs in September, but revised figures show that it actually gained 2.700 jobs then. Preliminary figures show another increase in jobs in Oregon in October, with 800 new nonfarm jobs.

October job gains were led by professional and business services, which added 700 jobs at a time when those businesses would normally be cutting back. “This major industry has been on a generally rising trend for much of the past two years,” state economists said. “It is up 4,800 jobs, or 2.6 percent, over the past 12 months.”
