Four Portland business districts won Venture Portland’s first ever economic development grants.

Venture Portland, which changed its name earlier this year from Alliance of Portland Neighborhood Business Associations, also awarded 12 more smaller grants during its fall grant cycle. In all, the organization funded $44,000 in grants meant to spur neighborhood business growth throughout the city.

The projects will leverage another $115,000 in private investment.

Its inaugural economic development grants, worth up to $6,000 apiece, will be used for projects within the next year. Among the winning business districts:

  • Columbia Corridor, multi-modal corridor study and improvement
  • Hawthorne Boulevard, civic ecology eco-district
  • Kenton, vacancy reduction and business revitalization incentive plan
  • St. Johns, “Open Spaces” storefront vacancy reduction
