Farmers Ending Hunger, an Oregon nonprofit, launched a new effort to harvest, process, store and distribute fresh food donated by family farms.

“Oregon is one of the most productive growing regions in the country and also one of the hungriest,” said Farmers Ending Hunger Executive Director, John Burt, in a press release. “In an average month, 72,000 children in Oregon eat meals from emergency food boxes.”

Through the Adopt-and-Acre program, individuals can sponsor anything from one farm row for $25 to two acres of crops for $500. Donors can view an interactive map of partner farms and learn more about the ingredients they donate — items as diverse as pears, wheat, peas and cattle.
