On one of his twice yearly visits to the Adidas America headquarters, CEO Herbert Hainer discussed the company’s commitment to keep the headquarters in Portland.

In announcing its second-quarter results earlier this month, Adidas showed it is on the road to achieving the ambitious growth goals laid out in a company growth plan, dubbed “Route 2015.” For the quarter, the company’s net profit rose 11 percent with a big jump in sales in China. As a result, the company boosted its earnings outlook for the full year from high single-digit sales growth to 10 percent. 

The U.S. market will be essential to continuing to grow the Adidas brand, Hainer said. 

“Everywhere in the world, we are as big or even bigger than Nike — besides the U.S.,” where Nike is number one, Hainer said. “This is where the difference is and this is by the far the biggest sporting market.”
