Homeowners seek help on Wells Fargo mortgages

Darrell Potter had one burning question when he and his wife met with a team of mortgage adjustment professionals Wednesday. Could Wells Fargo modify his mortgage, allowing the couple to remain in the house they purchased seven years ago?

The Potters were among the dozens of Wells Fargo customers — all struggling to make their mortgage payments — who attended a loan modification workshop at the downtown Medford Higher Education Center.

Darrell Potter has lived in Grants Pass for 35 years, working for a variety of employers, including a stint as a manager for Schuck’s Auto Parts, Ernst Home Center and Quality Fence in Central Point.

When he was laid off from Quality Fence at the end of September 2009, he discovered things had changed.

“Right after I got laid off, I notified Wells Fargo,” Potter said.

“Every other time I lost a job, I’ve found a job within a week,” Potter said. “A week went by, a month, six months, a year. It kept going and going.”
